I'm completely consumed by this question.
The ONLY way to fully engage an audience is to offer that ephemeral experience of a shared human experience.
I expend considerable effort discovering what that shared human experience is in relation to the work at hand.
When I find it; I interrogate it, empathise with it and build a story around it that makes the audience feel compelled - by their own humanity - to engage.
By doing this we create a conversation between you and your target audience.
And in that conversation we find growth.
